Jean
Murray is an Edinburgh-based classical flautist, and plays with other musicians to provide
music for weddings, civil partnerships, receptions, dinners and other
corporate and private functions. She draws on
a pool of freelance classical musicians and members of the Scottish Chamber
Orchestra, and can offer duos (usually flute with piano),
trios (usually flute with violin and cello) and quartets (usually flute
with violin, viola and cello, a slight alteration from the more usual
string quartet combination). Repertoire
incorporates music by popular
classical composers from Mozart to Scott Joplin, and is tailored to suit
specific requirements for individual occasions.
Jean
Murray trained as a flautist in Edinburgh and Glasgow, studying with David
Nicholson and Paul Kingsley. As well as playing chamber music, she works
as a freelance orchestral flautist and flute teacher, and organises
extra-curricular musical activities for children, currently being Director of
Edinburgh Young Musicians.
